Let it all begin. Volunteers who performed brilliantly at this year's national athletics championships are ready for the big task ahead awaiting the 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Budapest from 19 to 27 August.
The 128th Hungarian Athletics Championships took place at the end of last week. The competition was also a test event for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest. More than 300 volunteers helped run the two-day event, making a significant contribution to its success. For the first time, Hungarian athletes had the opportunity to compete in the recently built National Athletics Centre, the "home" of the World Championships.
As known, the Hungarian University of Sports Science is in charge of training the volunteer coordinators of the World Championships. Dr Szilvia Perényi, the director of the program, associate professor of the Department of Sports Management summarised the experiences briefly.
“Our volunteers did a fantastic job again, throwing themselves into the tasks of the test competition with incredible diligence and enthusiasm. They are excited and eager to take part in the live test in August. We are grateful for the support of such a great team to help make the World Championships run smoothly,” she said.
This means that volunteers are ready to face the challenge!
The Hungarian University of Sports Science has undertaken to train the volunteer coordinators of the Budapest 2023 IAAF World Athletics Championships, the university's Csörsz Street facility will be one of the training venues for the World Championships during the event. The university will also host a one-day professional conference with the world's most prominent sports scientists and last but not least professional coaches from the world of athletics are to gather around for the Coaches' Club's daily events at the university campus.
The film and pictures were taken by our student Balázs Harmathy, who graduated from TF's sports organization program and participated in several world competitions. Balázs also wrote his thesis on the topic of the digital representation of volunteerism, and his film about the volunteers of the World Wrestling Championship using the 'digital story telling' method received a special award at the OTDK.
