The Professor of the Department of Recreation first received an International Leadership Award from the University of Surin, Thailand, and a week later, he was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation from the World Leisure Organization (WLO) in Brazil.
In the last two weeks, not only has Dr Miklós Bánhidi, Professor of the Department of Recreation at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) travelled around the world but also received two major awards. In Thailand, he received the International Leadership Award from the former Rector of the University of Surin, Head of the Regional Sciences Sub-Programme of the Doctoral School.
A week later in Brazil he was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation by the President of WLO. The award is the acknowledgment of his 12-year internationally renowned service in the field of recreation in the Presidency of WLO where he was involved in the organisation and implementation of numerous international projects, including international congresses, educational, research and cultural events.
The Brazilian city also hosted the international Leisure Forum that focussed on leisure and social transformation. At the opening event of the conference, HUSS were represented in the theme ‘Leisure in urban development strategies’ introducing the example of the Hungarian capitol city, Budapest. HUSS representatives presented that Budapest has a well thought-out long-term strategy with excellent ideas, but at the same time it lacks a holistic approach to quality of life development, a description of the needs of the population and an explanation of the impact of developments on health.
HUSS has been represented successfully at the international forums, but it has yet to do a lot of work, especially with the participation of the Department of Recreation. The university is convinced that with the support of HUSS leadership and the city of Budapest, it will be able to realise its vision.
