Negotiations with the Hungarian Fencing Federation to open the Budapest FIE Coaching Academy started immediately after the 2013 World Fencing Championships. Two years and a half later, thanks to the concerted efforts of the FIE and local authorities to find a suitable venue, the Academy is fully operational at its location in the 13th District of Budapest, close to the Danube and Margaret Island.
FIE (International Fencing Federation) and UPE (University of Physical Education) signed an agreement in 2016 in the area of developing coaching in Fencing. After evaluating the conclusions of the course, FIE and UPE took further actions in order to start a joint theoretical and practical course in fencing coaching. The course is a three month long course includes 12 week intensive Monday-to-Friday program of six-hour days, totaling 360 classes both on the theoretical and practical field.
For the theoretical subjects, the FIE Coaching Academy enjoys the support of the University of Physical Education, which is teaching modules in psychology, pedagogy, training-methodology, physiology and strategic management for a total of 60 classes.
The practical modules are being thought by selected experts in each weapon: Ioan Pop for sabre, Bela Kopetka for epee and for foil, Zoltan Bernat.
With completion of the course the students receive a level 3 coaching certificate which is recognized by the FIE.
Two coaching courses were conducted in 2016 with 50 students and based on the successful cooperation between FIE and UPE there will be again two courses organized in 2017.

During the IJF Ordinary Congress in August 2013 in Rio de Janeiro, the President, Mr Marius Vizer announced the establishment of the IJF Academy. The purpose of the Academy is to provide coaching education in Judo sport assisting the National Judo Federations in the education and certification of their members. The Academy delivers three levels of certification:
- Level 1 - Instructor
- Level 2 - Coach
- Level 3 - Pro Licence (first enrolment in due in 2018)
The Academy is partnered with the University of Physical Education, Hungary (TE), which is the largest, the most comprehensive and the oldest centre for education and training in sport and physical activity in Hungary with a 92 years of history. IJF and TE has signed partnership agreement in 2013, which was renewed in 2015.
The primary aim of the Academy’s courses is to enhance the essential knowledge and skills in Judo and Academic related subjects. The courses are delivered in a “blended” system; during the 13-week long period the enrolled coaches take part in an online theoretical preparation parallel with the practical preparation for the assessment week(s), which are organized all over the World, in five continents.

The project AtLETyC addresses one increasingly important issue that strikes elite Athletes: “What are my professional perspectives after my sports career?”
The European Commission declared in 2007 in its “White paper on Sport” the importance to provide “Dual Career” training for young sportsmen and sportswomen already in an early stage in order to ensure the reintegration of professional sportspersons into the labour market at the end of their sporting careers. “Dual career” arrangements should allow Athletes to benefit from their sporting career as well to be well prepared for the time after their active sporting careers and to choose sport AND education.
AtLETyC will open a new opportunity to Athletes and a new direction in their lives. AtLETyC provides educational training on Entrepreneurship at postsecondary (VET and tertiary) level to Athletes. After the participation in the AtLETyC training programme they will be better educated and will even be able to create new jobs.
The new AtLETyC approach shall provide Athletes with a new career path and decrease unemployment.
The training program can easily be tailored to the needs of others and transferred to other countries and regions in Europe.

TE has been working together with FIBA for a long time. At the 100th anniversary of Ferenc Hepp’s birth, we have named together the auditorium of the university’s main building after the well-known Hungarian basketball diplomat.
The Research Center for Sport Economy and Decision Sciences has recently prepared two researches for FIBA Europe, one about home grown regulations and the other about the drop-out effect. We are currently working together in the EU Time-Out project in the field of dual careers.
The project of a “Regional Centre for Dual Career Politics and Advocacy” has been approved in 2015 call, project number: 517640-EPP-1-2015-2-RO-SPO-SCP and responds to one of the three EU general objectives to promote and support the good governance in sport and dual career of athletes.
DC4AC project is consistent with the efforts and concerns of the European Commission for insuring a safe future to retired athletes. This project will focus on the priority of supporting the implementation of EU policy documents in the field of Dual Career: EU Guidelines on Dual Careers of Athletes and other relevant documents such as recommendations, guidelines, policy strategies etc. (e.g. EU Physical Activity Guidelines, Principles on good governance in sport).
The project intends to help talented athletes and elite athletes reconcile their sport life with education and irrespectively with the job demands, to ease their transition from sport to the labor market and make them further contribute to society development. In order to fulfil all the above the project will try to find solutions to obtain support from the national authorities, public bodies, education providers, sport organizations, business and last but not least by the athletes themselves.
With support of the European Commission, ERASMUS+ Sport funds the consortium of 6 European counties are developing a project called “Regional Centre for Dual Career Politics and Advocacy - DC4AC”.
