On Tuesday, representatives of Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) and Guangzhou Sport University (GSU) discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions, including sports science and football coach training.
Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) welcomed a delegation from another Chinese university on Tuesday. Guangzhou Sport University is the third Chinese higher education institution in a short period of time to visit HUSS with the aim of strengthening ties with the university. Previously, HUSS signed cooperation agreements with the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports (CUPES) and Shanghai University of Sport.
Guangzhou Sport University’s delegation included Professor Mi Yinjun, Secretary of CPC Party Committee, Guangzhou Sport University, Professor and Research Fellow of Higher Education Management, Professor Xue Wenzhong, Director of Sports Training & Competition, Associate Professor of Traditional Chinese Sports, Professor Zhu Guilin, Dean of Football College, Professor of Sports Coaching, Professor Wang Zhao, Director of Development Research Center, Professor of Sports Economics and Management and Professor Feng Zheng, Director of International Office, Associate Professor of Sports Competition.
HUSS was represented by Rector Professor Tamás Sterbenz, Director of International Relations Denissza Blanár and International Relations Coordinator Györgyi Koppa. The meeting was also attended by Domonkos Deutsch, a representative of the Department of Sports Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Founded in 1956, Guangzhou Sport University, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary next year, is one of the leading higher education institutions in South China, distinguished particularly in the fields of education, research, and professional training. The university has 8,000 students and offers 17 undergraduate and 4 master's programmes, in addition to operating a doctoral school.
At the beginning of the meeting, the representatives of the Chinese university spoke with great appreciation about the history, traditions, and international achievements of Hungarian sport, as well as HUSS.
The training structures, programme and course portfolio of the two institutions are quite similar, which opened up several opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the fields of sports science and football coach education.
One of the ideas discussed was for HUSS's football coaches and experts to teach at the Chinese university’s National Football College, while HUSS professors could take part in Guangzhou Sport University’s double-degree programmes. HUSS also expressed its willingness to welcome Chinese students to its English-language Bachelor and Master’s programmes in football coaching and sports management, as well as to its Doctoral School.
The Hungarian side showed great interest in Guangzhou Sport University’s sports science program, as well as its “Sport and Arts” training, and the two parties also discussed potential student exchange opportunities.
Finally, the leadership of Guangzhou Sport University, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026, extended an invitation to Rector Tamás Sterbenz to attend the university’s anniversary celebrations.
