From the 10th of July thirty elite coaches from India visited lectures in our Faculty. The purpose of their one-month tailor-made coaching programme was to deepen their knowledge in the planning and guidance of training. Moreover they learnt other competences that are related to coaching. They had lectures in training theory, general conditioning, about injuries, nutrition of athletes and about doping. They learnt how to use a training planning software, so they will be able to pass their knowledge in practice to their athletes. Furthermore the thirty students – who were selected by the Sports Authority of India – visited and monitored some trainings held in our institution during their stay. After the lectures they had to write some computer-based tests.
Their stay contained some fun parts, not only serious ones. Fortunately some great sport events were held in Hungary during their stay. So they went to the charity football match of the drivers of Formula 1 and the Hungarian All Stars, the Gyulai István Memorial Hungarian Grand Prix in track and field, and they had an unique experience on the VASAS-HÍD vs. AS Roma football match. Among the freetime programmes they had some non-sport related ones. They visited some Central-European capital cities (Budapest, Wien and Bratislava), and they went to the Hungarian countryside for a half-day.
After an intensive study period the participants received their degree on the 6th of August at the closing ceremony of the programme. After arriving home they sent us some really positice feedbacks, so it is pretty sure that we will go on with the next thirty students.

On the 17th July Sergio Arnoldo Camargo Muralles, the president of the Olympic Committee of Guatemala and Lic. José Antonio Coro Garcia, the president of the Weightlifting Federation of Guatema visited our faculty. They were accompanied by three other guests from their country, among them the head of the sport committe of their parliament.
The visit was organised by Dr. Tamás Aján, the president of the International Weightlifting Federation and honorary member of the IOC. The Hungarian sportdiplomat has a great relationship with our Faculty where he earned his degree.
The visit had two pusposes. The delegates aimed to meet our dean to seek for some cooperation opportunities. On the other hand their aim was to get to know our faculty in depth. In this Dr. Tibor Kozsla, our Strategic and International Director helped them with his presentation about TF.
During his chat with our dean, Mr. Sergio Arnoldo Camargo Muralles said that he is not only the president of the NOC, but also the dean of the faculty of sport science in Galileo University. He told Dr. Miklós Tóth that they have a programme for South-American students in Spanish which is similar to the one that we run in cooperation with the IOC Olympic Solidarity. He offered a cooperation between the two faculties and his NOC related to the programmes.
Our dean and international director were pleased to have the opportunity to meet the delegates and they are open to start some cooperation with them in the near future.
A few pictures of the visit:
The first exchange programme with the University of Chichester was highly successful!
From the end of June twenty students from the University of Chichester were hosted by our faculty. The PE students were participants of the first exchange programme between the two institutions.
The 6 girls and 14 boys had the chance to try disciplines that are not common in their university. On the first week Ferenc Kemény – the father of the world’s most successful waterpolo coach, Dénes Kemény – taught them the basics of water polo; Ákos Patócs helped them in getting to know fencing; and they had several track and field lessons with our team lead by Béla Vágó.
On the second week they went on with track and field; they had wrestling lessons and Csaba Ökrös let them know about the basics of handball. They luckily had the chance to learn from Piroska Szamoránsky as well, because our national team member helped Csaba in training them.
Despite they had 6 hours of practical lessons a day, the students had an active freetime as well. We organised them a guided tour by bus on their first day in Budapest, they went on a boat trip on the lake Danube, and they also visited the building of the Parliament. They spent a whole afternoon at Margareta Island where they played frisbee and football, and they supported the Hungarian national squad at Vodafone Water Polo Cup. By themselves they went twice to the Széchenyi Bath and visited many other places in Budapest.
On the 9th of July their plane took off to London with twenty exhausted students with bruises on their arms – got them at the wrestling lessons -, but full of hope that we will organise the program again next year.
Snapshots of these days:
Hungary applies for the membership of the Security Council of the United Nations for the 2012-13 period. To enhance our back up our Government invited a delegation of the UN Ambassadors to spend some time in our country between the 14th and the 19th of June. In this period the delegation of 14 countries visited our faculty, when Dr. Tibor Kozsla – our strategic and international director – gave them a presentation. The delegation – which represented fourteen developing countries and which was led by Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, Ambassador to the UN and his colleagues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – listened to his presentation with enthusiasm.
Dr. Tibor Kozsla gave a short lecture about the history of physical education in Hungary. After it Dr. József Bognár, the vide-dean for education and sport talked a bit about our education system. It was followed by the listing of our international relations and partnerships by Dr. Kozsla. He noticed that twelve out of the presented seven island nations, six African and one South-American nations were represented by at least one student in TF in the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Programme throughout its 40-year-old history. Mr. Delano Frank Bart, the UN Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis was wondered that two days before his arrival one of his compatriots – Mr. Llevellyn Cleophas Pyke – received his coaching diploma in our faculty.
Mr. Henry Leonard Mac-Donald, the UN Ambassador of Suriname mentioned that they would like to build up a sport programme in his country, and he would like to cooperate in this issue with our school.
Although it was a quick visit, all in all it was successful, because after the presentation the participants chatted a little bit about probable future cooperation.

On the 14th of June we held the graduation ceremony of the participants of the International Coaching Course. The programme started in March with 45 participants from 12 countries and fortunately ended with the same number of students. They received their degree from Dr. József Tihanyi, the dean of our faculty, Dr. Tibor Kozsla, the strategic and international director of the faculty and their leading professors. We were honoured to greet some prestigeous guests at the ceremony. Mr. Sushil Singhal, the first secretary of the Embassy of India and Mr. Leandro Amado, the first secretary of the Embassy of Portugal came to congratulate the students, and Mr. Marcel Pop, the director of international affairs of the Semmelweis University graced us with his attendance.
In their speech the dean and the international director thanked the students for their diligent work and wished them success in their profession in their home. Dr. Tibor Kozsla added that we celebrate the 40th anniversary of ICC Programme and we always try to renew it with some modern elements. For example this group of students had a lecture from Lausanne via videoconference system. The director, who has personally good relationship with the graduates, emphasized that their feedback is really important for us, so he encouraged them to share their experiences with us.
The ceremonial speeches were followed by the most expected part: the takeover of the diplomas. Dr. László Szalma shook hands with his five students who received their diploma in track and field. The most popular course was the general conditioning. Its leading professor, Dr. Miklós Metzing gave the diploma to his 19 students. We had two judo coaches in the programme, their tutor was Dr. Endre Németh. Dr. Zoltán Bakó was the leader of the kayak-canoeing programme, in which two students took part. In soccer an exact team – eleven people – took over their degree from Mr. István Bacsó. We had three weightlifting coaches as well, Dr. András Szabó S. was their teacher. Last, but not least Dr. Sós Csaba gave their diploma to his three swimming coach students.
Among the students Asmah Hanim Binte Mohamad was the only one who got only fives – so hers was the only excellent diploma. She said some farewell words on behalf of the whole group. The young track and field coach from Singapore said that it was difficult to get used to the new atmosphere, but she emphasized that is was well worth taking part in the programme sponsored by the International Olympic Committee. She collected great amount of experiences, knowledge and friends and she will recall her sweetest memories in the future.
The biggest delegation with its 34 members came from India. Their group leader, Mr. Shankar S. Madgundi said some farewell words too. For his administrative work he was given a plaquette from Mr. Tibor Kozsla.
After the official ceremony the fresh diploma-holders were staying for a long time in the ceremony hall taking photos with their country’s flag, chatting with their professors and with each other. Then they were invited to a messing prepared by the staff of the TF restaurant. On the buffet table there were specialities of the Indian and some other nation’s cuisine, so everybody could get what they liked.

On the 8th of June we hosted two prestigeous guests in our board-room. Pamela Vipond, the Deputy Head of the Olympic Solidarity Programme of the IOC and Gianluca de Angelis, the Administrative Manager of the European Olympic Committees came to our faculty.
During their three-day trip in Hungary they listened to two presentations in TF: Prof. Csaba Istvánfi spoke about the Hungarian Olympic Committee’s Dual Career Path Program. He is the director of the program which helps top-level athletes enter into higher education. In Hungary 27 higher education institutions take part in the programme, so ours is a good practice of the so-called „dual career” which is now a popular field in sport-related EU-granting.
The second presentation was held by Dr. Tibor Kozsla, our Strategic and International Director. He spoke about the history of physical education in Hungary and about our institution. He mentioned our international projects and our future goals as well. Pamela Vipond found our distance learning aims really interesting. We already run a distance learning programme in Malta, and we would like to expand our means of this programme, so we could enter new dimensions in Hungarian sport-related higher education. The listing of these opportunities made the IOC-delegate curious.
The presentations were followed by a working lunch, in both Dr. Zsigmond Nagy, the International Director of the Hungarian Olympic Committee was taking part as well. After the lunch the three of the guests – completed with Mr. Zoltán Molnár, the Secretary General of the HOC – were heading firstly to Mr. Attila Czene, the State Secretary for sport and then to Gödöllő where they met Dr. György Gémesi, the President of the Hungarian Sports Confederation.
On 19th May the participants of the International Coaching Course (ICC) and the Intensive Canoe-Kayak Coaching Course took part in an extraordinary, but hopefully a future-traditional course.
Yassine Yousfi, the project manager of the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity Programme held his presentation live from Lausanne to sixty students representing eighteeen countries. The organiser and moderator of the event was Dr. Tibor Kozsla, strategic and international director of our faculty. He emphasized that this was a pilot event and in the case of its success he will organise several similar programmes in the future.
Among other things Yassine Yousfi talked about the history and the mission of the Olympic Solidarity Programme and the global partnership that it could build up with national olympic committees and other sport organisations. To the surprise of several students he manifested the fact that the budget of the programme comes only from the NOC share of the TV rights for the broadcast of the Olympic Games. It means that the students supported by the IOC-OS scholarship are able to study in Hungary because of the TV rights of the Olympics. And the budget of the programme is growing continuously from its start in 1985, thanks to the fact that the TV rights are becoming more and more valuable.
The terminal of the presentation was about the subtypes of the Olympic Solidarity programme. It was followed by Q & A session and the bravest students used this option.
